The Trump administration announced on Friday ( September 20) a plan to impose a fee of $100,000 per year on companies hiring foreign workers through the H-1B visa programme, a move expected to hit the technology sector that depends heavily on talent from India and China.

Following numerous announcements of layoffs across the tech industry, many tech and business leaders have concluded that the tech talent crunch is over. Appearances can be deceiving, however. In a recent Gartner survey, 86% of CIOs reported facing more competition for qualified candidates and 73% were worried about IT talent attrition.
